Schlegel Collects Several Awards
« on: February 23, 2015, 03:18:27 PM »
Youngstown State's Heidi Schlegel has been recognized by the Horizon League, College Sports Madness and espnW for her noteworthy performances last week in two Penguins victories.

Schlegel scored 38 points in both games last week while shooting an impressive 68.2 percent from the field. She was named the conference player of the week by the Horizon League and College Sports Madness, and College Sports Madness also named her the High-Major Player of the Week. Schlegel was noted for her performance on espnW's national player-of-the-week announcement.

The Horizon League recognized Schlegel as the conference player of the week for the second consecutive week and for a league-best third time this season.

Schlegel scored 38 points at Milwaukee on Thursday and at Valparaiso on Saturday to set a new school record for points in consecutive road games. She recorded the league's highest scoring game of the season and tied for the 24th-most points scored in a Division I game this season. In fact, her 38 points were more than both Longwood and Presbyterian had in an overtime game on Saturday. Schlegel was 14-for-20 shooting at Milwaukee and 16-for-24 at Valparaiso.

Schlegel now ranks third in the Horizon League with 18.1 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game, and she's second in double-doubles with 11. In league play, the Wapakoneta, Ohio, native ranks second in scoring (21.6), rebounding (10.7), field-goal percentage (.549), free-throw percentage (.821) and double-doubles (6).

Youngstown State will play host to Green Bay on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
