Akron has played most of their games at home and, like us, has played quite a few low major programs.  Like us, only two of their foes have winning records.  They are undefeated because they have not played a high major team.

As Barnes suggested in the paper today, Akron will play fast, shoot quickly, and try to outscore us.  Undoubtedly they try to wear teams out with that pace, but we should have the depth....and quality depth....to deal with that.  Play strong defense and break out of our shooting slump and we should be fine.

Well, we looked to take it up to a 10-point lead & the zips quickly cut it to 4.

They have several shooters above us. We need to start putting pressure on before mid-range as the zips do not miss from there, They shoot like men.

Wow, we had the defense and the free throws tonight. Anyone else see how Akron continued to press up until there was a YSU steal with one-second left. They even called timeouts. A little cheap if you ask me, but they did not want to lose. The result of all of that was that we went up from a 7-point lead to a 12-point lead. I am so proud of these gals ...what great game.

Excellent performance. :)  Great crowd and totally unexpected, given that it is Monday, the holiday season, and semester break.  That brought back memories of the community support that the women received in the 1990s.

We asked for defense and boy did we get that.  After shooting nearly 52% in the first half, Akron finished under 40% for the game.  They were 1-17 outside the arc.  We held Akron to 22 points below their average.  Walker and Schlegel were beasts underneath, both scoring 25 points and recording double digit rebounds.

The Horizon League is still going to be very difficult, but this is the time to enjoy this decisive victory.

Could not have said it any better myself. It is always nice to beat Akron in sports, but this one was even better being they were undefeated.

With that being said, that was one of the best performances I've seen at Beeghly, men or women, in the past 6-8 years. Just an overall terrific effort by our team. Tish Walker was a beast down low getting rebound after rebound.

Kudos to the great crowd that came out as well, especially due to the fact they were into it the entire game.

Go YSU!

I thought three aspects of the Akron game were noteworthy.

(1) The defense, but there's no real surprise there anymore. It will be interesting down the road if YSU can control Campbell at UIC and Demming at Wright State, at least enough to keep them from dominating a game.

(2) The accuracy of the inside shooting.  Great improvement from earlier in the season.

(3) The patience of the outside players in setting up a play.  Sometimes they've been too quick to take a three-point shot. This patience is something new.  Hope it stays.

Harding's Anita Brown had a very good game against the Guins.  Anyone know why she chose Akron over YSU coming out of high school?

YSU does not sell itself well in most sports to Harding athletes. Most go much bigger and those that could be at YSU don't get recruited as well as others do. Perception, maybe. But long track record says otherwise

Can only guess that she felt sorry for them
