Basketball to play at Purdue
« on: June 05, 2015, 12:15:25 AM »
For those who care, it was called to my attention by one of the best YSU fans that the men's basketball team will play at Purdue on December 12.

Why not more talk here. This is true, both schools released it. We face a power team from the Big-10

We face Notre Dame on December 21st in South Bend. I plan to be there cheering on my two favorite schools!

I usually don't follow anything but football, but I do read a ton of negativity regarding MBB on this blog.  Getting more visability for the program with some of these matchups seems positve to me.

In 2012, we started off the season beating GW and GA.  A few games later we played NDSU.  That year we won the first round of the CIT.

In addition to collecting a check, it helps recruiting, it helps player development, and it increases fan interest.  Games against Theil and Wilberforce give fans the impression we are a sub-D1 school.

It's good to see improvement in MBB scheduling.

But we are a subpar D-1 school....

0505 not sure what you mean by subpar.  If a program is graded on wins and losses only, (and I don't do that) but if you grade that way only, then yes they are below average, but the sum total of all college basketball in -0- so disregarding the mathematical possibility that a school could be 50-50 over time, then at least half the schools in the country are below average or subpar by your grading scale. I think a lot of very good programs, producing a lot of fine young men, are in your subpar category, and I think they deserve more respect.

Five of the last ten seasons, YSU has finished 9th or 10th in the HL.

I think calling that "subpar" is an understatement.

To me that equates to "below average", but to me, subpar is somehow more derogatory than just a reflection of wins and losses.   Having read many of the scathing attacks on Coach Slocum, maybe you guys have sensitized me too much!

We should have a large amount of fans at that tournament at FGCU. Southwest Florida is loaded with Youngstowners.

Perhaps Slocum and the administration have finally heard our "cries from the desert" regarding such poor scheduling in the past.  This schedule actually has potential.  Besides Toledo, who else are we playing at home?
