Youngstown State senior Brandon Pluchinsky won the 85th Northeast Ohio Amateur Golf Championship which concluded on Monday with 36 holes at the Youngstown Country Club. Pluchinsky won by six shots after rounds of 66 and 69 on Monday.
For the four-round event, Pluchinsky carded a 279 with rounds of 72, 72, 66 and 69. Finishing in second was Tyler McHugh who shot a 285. Ian Holt was third with a 286 and was the only other golfer within 11 shots of Pluchinsky.
The first round was played at the Windmill Lakes Golf Club on June 16. The second round was at Club Walden on June 18 before the conclusion of the event on Monday at YCC.
At Windmill Lakes, Pluchinsky had a two-over par score featuring 10 pars, five bogeys and three birdies. At Club Walden, he had an even-par 72 with 14 pars, two bogeys and a pair of birdies.
In his first round at YCC on Monday, he had a bogey-free round with 13 pars and five birdies. Pluchinsky birdied five, six, seven, 10 and 13. Entering the round he was in sixth place and took the lead with his five-under par 66. In his second round, he again had five birdies to go with a bogey and a double bogey. He birdied five, seven, nine, 14 and 17.
Five other Penguins also took part in the tournament.
Thomas Lydic finished tied for ninth with a 296. Lydic had rounds of 76 and 77 on Monday to go with a 70 and 73 earlier in the tournament. Dominic Carano was 17th with a 301, Jason McQuown finished 19th with a 302, D.J. Holub was 34th with a 315 and Evan Standohar placed 38th with a 321.
