Youngstown State senior Austin McLean was awarded the Horizon League Cross Country Athlete of the Year after winning the title at the HL Championships.

McLean posted a remarkable time of 24:37.43 in the 8k race and was honored First Team All-League honors.

McLean has had an impressive year after competing in five races this season. He started off the season by placing sixth at the Duquesne Duals with a time of 26:23.7. At the Tommy Evans Invitational, McLean posted an incredible time of 20:01 in the four-mile event to take first place and just missed the course record by one second.

The Youngstown State men's cross country team competed in the All-Ohio Championships in early October and McLean finished eighth against nearly 600 runners to post a time of 24:52.68. McLean was also recognized as a first-team Division I All-Ohio selection for his efforts.

At the Disney World Cross Country Classic, McLean lead the Penguins as they earned a team win and took second in the event with a time of 24:43.20.

McLean was also named the Horizon league Runner of the Week in early October and was crowned the 2015 Youngstown State Homecoming King.

The cross country team will compete in their last meet of the season at the Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 13. Last Year McLean set a school mark in the 10k event with a time of 31:29.
