Former Penguin Emily Dixon Named Assistant Women's Golf Coach
« on: August 07, 2016, 02:06:10 PM »
Former Youngstown State women's golfer Emily Dixon has joined the Penguins' coaching staff, Head Coach Nate Miklos announced on Friday. Dixon was a standout with the program for the past three seasons.

Dixon was the 2015-16 Horizon League Women's Golfer of the Year and took medalist honors at the league meet in 2015.

"I'm very excited to have her as our assistant and think she will bring a lot to the team," Miklos said.

Dixon won a school-record eight events in just two-and-a-half years with the program. In three appearances at the Horizon League meet she placed first (2015), second (2016) and eighth (2014). She was named the conference's golfer of the year following her senior campaign. Dixon set the school career record for lowest average at 77.4.

During her senior year, she won three tournaments - the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, the Oakland Golden Grizzly Invitational and the YSU Kickoff - while tying for first in a dual against Niagara. Dixon led the team with a strokes-per-round average of 75.5. That mark is a school record by 1.5 strokes per round. She finished in the top eight in nine of the 12 events on the year.

As a junior, she took medalist honors at the Horizon League Championships with a three-round score of 224. On the strength of a sold team finish, Dixon and the Penguins won the event and advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the first time in school history.

At the league meet, she had rounds of 75, 77 and 72. Dixon started the final round in in third place to start the day, eight shots behind the leader. She shot four-under par on the back nine with four birdies in a five-hole stretch. Besides winning the HL Championships, she won the Roseann Schwartz Invitational and the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational.

Dixon, a native of Pataskala, Ohio, orginally began her collegiate career at Toledo before transferring to YSU in the spring of 2014.
