Christian Turner, a 5-10, 190 RB from Cincinnati La Salle high school has committed to YSU. Highly productive back for the D2 state champs.

He also had 3 offers from very high academic schools..I love smart football players..We got a great running back

Go Guins there are lots of needs, wants and desires from all your top FCS programs each year. With 63 scholarships that can be divided between 85 players compared to the 85 full scholarships allowed at the FBS level it will always be an uphill battle. The key is to not get overloaded at any one position and still have comfortable depth. Sometimes it always doesn't work out that way. More often then not you will always have a weaker side to the line of scrimmage from year to year. At least our backup defensive ends were able to get their feet wet this year and they will only continue to improve. I  think Mays was kept at the back up position for a reason after Ricky returned from injury. I think we will have an offense that will put up a ton of yards and points next season. My hope is we develop a strong defense that may bend at times, but won't break. The coaches are still active on the Juco trail you could see a few surprises on defense before signing day

Add QB Joe Craycraft from Marion to the list. 6-4, 200 pound with a strong arm. Needed a QB in this class.

with that release i doubt he ever see's the field as a QB. my god those are some god awful fugly throws.

Do I need to raise my hand and be acknowledged if I want to go to the bathroom teacher?  WTF is this all about?  I been watching YSU football since you were a gleam in your daddy's eye, so don't talk down to me.   OF COURSE one side of the ball is better than the other.  Same is true for Ohio State and the New England Patriots too.  What kind of elementary class are you running here?
Our backup D ends were a pitiful shadow of Rivers and Moss, and we need major input of new talent if we are going to be reasonable competitive with a 100% new D backfield.   You guys and your backups slay me.

I have been following some of Akron and Kent's recruiting class and it's not pretty. Our staff should be commended for the job they have done especially with the extented season in this year's playoff run

What is concerning to me is that it looks like we are getting smaller in size.  I haven't looked at it closely but at a glance it seems we are getting smaller.

You mean physically smaller?  HS kids are always (very often) much smaller than their playing weight in college.  Kid comes in as a 285# OT and gets red shirted his freshman year and viola, you end up with a 310 RS-Freshman!  Magic and the science of modern chemistry!  Look at height not weight.  Christian Turner, the RB everybody (especially me) is so high on is 5-10 185.  If he ends up at RB, it will be 5-11 or 6-0 210 or bigger than Ruiz and McCaster.   Size never bothers me, only speed.  Can’t teach speed.

Your question is relevant only if we have 21 scholarships.  Since we have more than enough for 2 players at every position, plus kickers and extra backups to cover injuries.  IMO, your question doesn’t make sense, unless you plan on “missing” on most of your scholarship players.
Your implication is if I want Rivers/Moss quality DE's then I can't also have quality OL.  I disagree, and in fact feel absolutely the opposite.  If Rivers and Moss get drafted, then top 1AA recruits will notice at both DE and OL and we end up better at both positions.  Winning breeds winning, ask NDSU.

I wish we didn't need so many specialist's on the roster. We have a total of 4 plus the long snapper. A few years back Joey C. handled the majority of those same duties. Bo's first recruiting class was 30 players and 22 remain active on the roster. Bo's second class had 11 and all still remain. Does anyone know how many players we plan on taking this year?

That is a remarkably high number of kids still in the program.  Wish we had the numbers from Wolford's classes to compare.  I seem to remember we lost 16 kids from the program is one season under Wolf.

I count 17 open scholarships (Seniors Graduated) and that is not including anybody who transfers out during the off season.

We have 11 coming in so far, by my count including Durkin. I would suspect 1 or 2 more FBS transfers. Could also allow some of the walk-ons from last year to grab a scholly.

Fever, thanks for the numbers breakdown on Bo's two recruiting classes.  I agree that it is very positive that most are still in the program.  This is how you build a program properly, a program that eventually will be able to compete every year.

I agree 100%!   I really like the way the new class is shaping up.  If, and it's a BIG IF, the DE recruits can play at a reasonably high level, this team could be better than last.  LB's best group in a while, RB is deeper, QB's more experienced, WR more experienced.  OL more athletic, CB's probably a little better and kicking should be healthy.  Zack's injury hurt us in a few games.

I would disagree a little here. We will never see the caliber of DE's again like Rivers and Moss. The best DE's in all of FCS and probably more than half of the mid majors in FBS. DB's will not be better. I don't count out Bo and Carl defensively but they'll have work cut out for them in the secondary. RB's also wont be as deep. We will miss Ruiz and his good instincts and finding the hole and Webb's speed. Agree with the LB's though. Very, very good group. QB's and WR's will also be more experienced. Townsend, Bailey and Patterson all going to be seniors.
