IMO I'd rather be in FCS playoffs than the G5 and a meaningless bowl.  WMU was never even considered for the CFP.  Why not skip G5 and join the ACC and beat VT again?  ;)  I think there'll be major conference realignment with several G5 teams dropping to FCS in the next few years.  I think Idaho is the first of many.  G5 attendance is taking a big hit.  I've heard JMU was offered MAC membership?  If you passed on it...wise move.

I see club seating as a step down from loge and it will be purchased by businesses. It is an idea worth consideration, I just want to see some dollar figures to be certain the area makes more than additional loges.

JMU uses semantics when it speaks.  It will say we have not been "offered membership to any conference".  They also say "if the right opportunity comes around" they will accept it.
Here's what this means - no conference will offer unless they know a school will accept.

I know the Sunbelt offered, but we wanted a Football only membership.  I believe the offer has been outstanding for years for full membership, although I read about 6 months ago they gave up on us.

CUSA approached both ODU and JMU to gauge our interest in CUSA at the final four about 5 years ago.  ODU said "hell yes, let's talk."  JMU said, "thanks, but the timing is not right for us".  Imagine when your rival's new football program is ready at 4 years, and a team that's been one of the top 5 1AA programs the last decade isn't quite ready.  New stadium, new athletic center for football, and 23k average home attendance.   >:(

As far as the MAC - about 3 years ago there was a lot of talk about JMU going to the MAC.  We all the sudden were playing their teams in basketball and football.  We even had a preliminary agreement for one of the MACSs 1A teams to play at JMU.  That would of been the first time a 1A had played at a 1AA.    MAC coaches were openly quoting what a good addition JMU would be for the MAC.  Then all the sudden nothing happened.  I assume that was not our precise choice.

Also 3 years ago we paid to have a company to evaluate our readiness for a move to 1A, and they said we were ready.

A year or two ago I, and most fans would of told you the admin was at a point where it was CUSA (we're ready now, but CUSA isn't offering) or better, and no Sunbelt or MAC.  At this point with the new Virginia legislation limiting student fees for athletics, I'm not sure if CUSA is still an option for our Admin.    I think our out fee is at $1,000,000 for the CAA.  I think getting into a conference is more than that.  Plus television revenues have dropped for CUSA.  So there is a good chance JMU won't see 1A in my lifetime.   Having recently hit 50,  I only got so much time???

It's not just clubs, but suites.  Suites are normally for businesses, and clubs individuals.  At least in our situation.

Here's a scathing article about MAC finances. EMU takes >80% of its athletic budget from student fees (I think YSU is ~70%).  I'd hate to see JMU (or YSU) pay the conference entrance fee, and the league admits they're busted and dissolves a year or so later and the $$ vanish.

Right, but that is what I am saying. Many small businesses cannot afford a loge ...they cost 10-20 times what it looks like a club seat will sell for. Very few people in Youngstown will have $2k-$3k for a club seat. It will have to be a business looking for the tax deduction.

Interesting story, I used to work for a man that was a huge buckeyes supporter. He played OSU marching band music all day every day in the office. Once a year the campus police arrest some of the prominent businessmen in Columbus and they ask money for their release on bail. I was unaware if this.

I was sitting at my desk and suddenly about 6-10 uniformed officers walk into the office (Gahanna, Columbus, State and campus), put him in cuffs and escorted him out the door. I was by that time basically hiding so as not to be a part of anything that I was not involved with. If I would have known players and staff I would have caught on, but I had no idea other than the fact that the owner my company was just arrested. I went down to the police station with our CFO and he gave them a check for what I think was a million dollars. Could have been $100k, but I did count the zeros. blew me away. Then Archie Griffin came and unlocked the cell. It was made of beer cans. In any case, I know that he had 6 club seats that were his in each facility. He used to leave tickets on the table for all of the sports. I usually saw MBB or hockey and it was fun.

Went down around the campus last week, a lot of construction taking place along Fifth Avenue and Rayen. I thought they were to start on the new eastside press box right after the end of the football season but nothing is taking place as of yet. Anyone hear anything about a start up date? Having that press box would actually help enclose The Ice Castle with the additional height on the east end. It would change the appearance on the inside dramatically.

We get a million dollar donation and still can't raise enough funds. What a joke.

Construction will be delayed for a year.  A new design featuring a far better looking East Side than the original plans.  New architectural drawings highlight the use of metal facing and glass. The look will be so much better than the present plans. Drawing and specifications are being ordered. Completion date will be the start of the 2018 football season.

Better to do it right than on time.  I hope they explore some variation of club seating.

Amen to that!  That silly Jackson-Milton HS type press box on east stands is ridiculous, but it won’t be any worse in 2017 than the last 10 years.  Do it right.

Since that facility will be used year round for educational purposes, I doubt that Tressel will have much difficulty finding donations to cover the cost.  As everybody has said, do it properly.  We can wait one more year.

You've got that right.  The only issue you should have about Tressel rasing money is if he gets near your wallet!  He was a GREAT coach, but getting business people do fork over $1,000,000 might be his true calling!
