Corbett, Zallow Named HL Track & Field Athletes Of the Year

Youngstown State senior thrower Jaynee Corbett and sophomore sprinter/hurdler Chad Zallow were named the Horizon League's Alfreeda Goff Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Year. The awards were presented following the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships which were held at the WATTS this past weekend.

The award was voted on by the league coaches for the top individual performance during the season leading up to the championships. Both Corbett and Zallow had outstanding seasons and capped them off with an impressive showing at the league meet winning five individual events. Both were named outstanding performers as well at the conference meet.

Corbett's Accomplishments

    2017 Horzion League Indoor Championship Co-Outstanding Field Performer
    2017 Horizon League Indoor Champion in Shot Put
    2017 Horizon League Indoor Champion in Weight Throw
    Best Shot Put leading up to HL Championships - 14.60m at Akron Invitational
    Best Weight Throw Leading up to HL Championships - 17.45m at the PSU National Invitational
    Season-best throw of 14.91m at the Horizon League Championships (Shot Put)
    Career-best throw of 18.40m at the Horizon League Championships (Weight Throw)
    Won the weight throw with a toss of 17.35m at the Akron Invitational
    Won the shot put with a toss of 13.79 meters at the YSU College Invitational
    Won the shot put and weight throw at the YSU Icebreaker

Zallow's Accomplishments

    2017 Horizon League Indoor Championship Outstanding Running Performer
    2017 Horizon League Indoor Champion 60m hurdles (meet record 7.61 seconds)
    2017 Horizon League Indoor Champion 60m dash (meet record 6.77 seconds)
    2017 Horizon League Indoor Champion 200m dash
    2017 Dr. Philip Edwards Award as the outstanding male competitor at the Armory Track Invitational
    Sets a USATF Under-19 record in the 42-inch (106.7 cm) hurdles on Feb. 4. Broke the long-standing mark in the event that was held by Robert Gaines (Jan. 31, 1976) and Jason Richardson (March 12, 2005).
    Won the 60m hurdles at the Armory National Track Invitational (7.61 seconds)
    Won the 60m hurdles at the SPIRE Division I Invitational (7.61 seconds)
    Won the 60m hurdles at the Akron Zips Invitational (7.61 seconds)
    Won the 60m hurdles at the YSU National Invitational
    Won the 60m hurdles at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala
    Won the 60m hurdles at the YSU Icebreaker

Is that all they were able to accomplish?? And I thought they were good or something? (KIDDING!!)
Outstanding on both their parts and for the whole T&F program, both men and women.  Great job by kids, coaches, trainers and adminstrators!
