Eight Qualify For NCAA Track and Field East Preliminaries

Eight Youngstown State track and field student-athletes qualified for the 2017 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminaries, May 25-27, hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.

Qualifying for Youngstown State were junior Ryan Booth, senior Jaynee Corbett, junior Tyler Donati, freshman Jaliyah Elliott, freshman Collin Harden, senior Taylor McDonald, senior Ryan Roush and sophomore Chad Zallow.

Zallow, 2016 NCAA East Preliminary qualifier, ranks first in the 110-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 13.37 set at the Pepsi Florida Relays on March 30. Zallow finished 38th at the 2016 preliminaries with a time of 14.42..

Booth, the 2017 Horizon League Track and Field Championship Outstanding Field Performer, earned a spot ranking 27th in the shot put with a heave of 17.93 meters at the BYU Last Chance Meet on May 13.

The 2017 Youngstown State Female Athlete of the Year, Corbett ranks 28th in the shot put after a toss of 15.86 meters at the BYU Last Chance Meet on May 13. Corbett was also the Outstanding Field Performer at the 2017 Horizon League Championship Meet.

Harden, the 2017 Horizon League Freshman of the Year, ranks 28th in the 400-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 51.98 at the George Mason Invitational on April 8.

McDonald set the school record and qualified in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.87 at the Jesse Owens Classic on April 22. She is currently ranked 29th in the East preliminary field.

Roush's school-record time of 29:34.12 in 10,000-meter run at the Bucknell Bison Classic on April 14 ranks 30th at the East preliminaries.

Elliott, who won a pair of Horizon League Championships, ranks 45th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.68 at the BYU Last Chance Meet on May 13.

Donati qualified for the East preliminaries with a school-record and championship-winning throw of 62.60 meters in the javelin at the Horizon League Track and Field Championships on May 5. He ranks 48th in the event.
