Assuming we can make a little or at least break even, this does indeed look like a good tournament early in the season.  We all hate the Westminster component, but look at the dog that Southern Mississippi has scheduled.

Does anybody know our home games in November and December?  It is imperative that we showcase the "new" program in front of some decent DI competition.  First impressions will be critical to casual fans who are not following the transition as closely as we are.

I know were going to Utah State, Butler and Depaul and getting paid for all. Also going to a Big 10 school this year as well.

I believe they are waiting to find out if someone is taking Valpo's place in the conference before finalizing the schedule.

The "casual fan" don't care as much about "decent D1 competition" as they do big wins.  We are far better off beating up on some cupcakes early to generate "casual fan" interest.  The "we" you describe as the fans watching closely know what we are seeing vs a Westminster etc. but the causal fans want 90-60 and 8-1 starts.  Look at what Thad Matta does to build support going into the BIG season.

Nah, don't want anymore cupcakes and neither does Calhoun. We won't see any of those type of games.

Thad is out of a job now btw ;)

Thad is out because he lost his team.  Look at what day it is; they only did this now because they HAD to.  We hired Calhoun very late waiting for his tournament run at Fairmont to end.  This is MONTHS later.  Don't know what happened in Columbus, but players walking out all over the place.  They will need to look for some on campus walkons to have enough players to scrimage!  Too bad for all involved, but it wasn't cupcakes that caused the fall.
You are the same as 1AA, you are NOT the causal fan we need to get interested.
You say Calhoun won't sechdule any cupcakes, but we have no track record.  Not sure there is much of a cupcake level below Fairmont State.  He did run up 134 points on Davis & Elkins last season.

Calhoun is waaay to new to be influencing schedule. Not even involved.

PS: Gene Smith is a boob and I would have Bo Pelini on the phone with Matta ASAP. Tell him we need him for the next 3 years. Let him collect off of OSU, just as Bo does Nebraska. Make Calhoun HC-in-waiting, just like Syracuse MBB did when their candidate became available.

1AA I hate to take chief's side in this, but whatever has gone on in Columbus has REALLY soured a bunch of kids on Matta's basketball and until that is completely removed, I have -0- interest in Matta at YSU under any circumstances.  1AA is right, Gene Smith is a boob, but otherwise he is far off base.  I'm Calhoun YES, Matta NO, and no regrets at all!
