Pollock had a concussion last year and redshirted. We are loaded at LB so we'll see.

Mr. Malik was the one involved in the rape case down there in Steubenville.... So.

YIKES! Thanks Chief. Wasn't aware of either kid's past, just scouring the roster posted on the "Official YSU site". I feel the "D" will be just fine with or without these two.

I don't know, but I stay out of legal issues. The video on line must not have been the entire thing then.  Which makes sense, they would want to protect the victims. I guess we just have to trust the judges and coaches.

I did a brief Google search on this and boy, what a MESS.  I can't tell if Richmond is guilty or not, and if he is legally guilty but not so much in public opinion or just to opposite.  Tons of stuff with investigators etc on this.  However, he was back on HS team, so not sure why not YSU team?  Afterall, we've taken guys with guns where HS would not?

Yeah and Moss exposed himself to a girl while at Nebraska lol and he is NFL bound. But rape is a completely different level... He was on the team last year and red shirted so nobody knew.

Rape is different that exposure, in my mind too, although both require you to register as a known sex offender.  Do they register as sex offenders in athletic dorms?  How's that for a question?  This will go off Richmond's record when he turns 21 and the rape was in 2012  so he is probably over 21 so he may not show up on the on-line registeries.

http://wkbn.com/2017/07/26/ysu-football-working-to-regain-high-attendance-of-the-90s/amp/ I like the idea of selling beer
I here Strollo talking about doing a bunch of stuff to get fans in the stands and NOT ONE IDEA was expressed.  The actual situation is they are doing nothing on their own to help.  Very sad.

Just an extra way of getting more money by selling beer. It's not going to put more butts in the seats. People need to realize the crowds will never get back to the way it was in the 90's. That was shown by attendance at the 2 home playoff games last year. Sad...

Yes, it'll never be like it was in the 90's... Much like the Indians in Cleveland.  They go to a World Series and ticket sales will still never be like it was then.

However, selling beer will increase attendance... Plus increase revenue.

You'll have a hard time convincing me the sale of beer will increase attendance greatly at a YSU football game.

If you are a season ticket holder, did you receive a phone call from the athletic office sometime in late June or early July, thanking you for your patronage and asking you to complete a short survey?  I really appreciated the gesture.  It was the first attempt that I can recall to get feedback from fans in about two decades.  Beer sales was one of the questions along with price of tickets and a few other items.  During the course of the conversation, the young man stated that they were puzzled because seasons ticket renewals were actually down from the same time as last year.  I think that the athletic department still does not understand the damage done by the handling of the championship game tickets.  I hope that I am wrong, but beer sales might be an act of desperation.

Cindy article on YSU football today:

Pelini, Penguins comfortable together

FCS playoff run showed players, staff bought into Pelini’s culture change
Published: 7/27/17 @ 12:10

By Brian Dzenis

bdzenis@vindy.com

As Bo Pelini enters his third season in charge at Youngstown State, the football team is truly his.

While there are holes to fill and roles to figure out when camp opens on Aug. 3, everyone involved in the program knows what the expectations are and they’ve bought into the culture.

“I guess I’m a little bit more comfortable now knowing what the challenges are and a couple years in, your culture has got stronger,” Pelini said. “The players have a better understanding of where I’m coming from and where the staff is coming from.

“It’s a never-ending thing where you continue to work and continue to try and develop your team and your culture. I think where we are now, we’ve got the chance to compete on a yearly basis in this conference.”

The Penguins are coming off a 12-4 campaign that ended with a 28-14 loss to James Madison in the Football Championship Subdivision national championship game.

They made it to the title gamelast season after a 10-year postseason drought.

Despite those accomplishments, the Penguins are ranked No. 3 with no first-place votes in the Missouri Valley Football Conference’s preseason poll. Pelini was dismissive of the poll itself and said wasn’t inclined to compare his team to the two sides above his: South Dakota State at No. 2 and top-ranked North Dakota State.

Where the Penguins have seen a more tangible impact from their postseason performance is on the recruiting trail and when scheduling out-of-conference opponents. YSU’s national championship run left the coaching staff with just 25 days, to National Signing Day, but the team was able to sign 19 players and add a few transfers.

“I think it certainly helped, there’s a lot of competition for players in this region,” Pelini said. “Kids want to win, when you have the success we’ve had, maybe you have a chance to get in on kids that you previously couldn’t get in the past.

“I thought we had a good recruiting year and our success had a lot to do with that. Hopefully we build on that and keep the momentum going.”

On the scheduling side, Pelini and his MVFC coaching peers have noticed FBS teams have been reluctant to schedule any MVFC teams, lest they end up like Iowa, which saw its No. 11 rank fall after losing to North Dakota State, 23-21, last season.

“Teams don’t necessarily want to play teams in our conference. They may want to play an FCS team, but they don’t want to play our conference because of the challenges that come with that,” Pelini said. “We have some things for the future — open dates that we we’re working to fill — and we’re not getting a lot of takers.”

The Penguins open their season Sept. 2 at Pittsburgh. Now more than ever, the head coach thinks the foundation is set.

“Hopefully some of that success we had last can carry over while we continue to build on our culture,” Pelini said. “You do that and I think we have a fighting chance.”

I am and I did not get such a call.

I am not happy about the beer sales, already enough drinkers in the crowd saying crude things in front of my family

I'd rather have some loud, rowdy fans than fans who sit there on their hands and say nothing during the game. But hey that's just me.
