« on: January 22, 2018, 10:18:17 PM »
First-year Head Coach Brian Shrum today announced the additions of Josh Green and Mandy Green to the Youngstown State women's soccer coaching staff.

"I am proud to be joined by Josh and Mandy Green," Shrum said. "Both Josh and Mandy bring a wealth of knowledge as coaches and recruiters at the highest level of NCAA women's soccer."

Josh Green, who will serve as an assistant coach with a focus on goalkeepers, spent the last eight years as a volunteer coach at South Dakota and also made stops at Xavier (2009), Loyola Marymount in California (2008-09), Minnesota State-Mankato (2006-08), Iowa (2004-06), and Pepperdine (1996-2003).

"Josh has  an extensive background in training goalkeepers and recruiting top-tier female soccer players," Shrum said. "His connections to club coaches, nationally, will expand our geographical recruiting area and improve the influx of prospective-student athletes to Youngstown State University.

As a graduate assistant at Mankato, Green helped the MSU program become a Division II national power. The Mavericks had a 26-9-3 record, boasting three All-Central Region players and eight All-North Central Conference players.

Green also helped build Pepperdine into a Top 25 team. Pepperdine made three appearances in the NCAA tournament from 1996 to 2003.

He is a 1994 graduate of California Lutheran University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in physical education. He completed his master's degree in sports psychology from Minnesota State, Mankato in 2008.

Mandy Green, who will serve as a volunteer assistant coach with the Penguins, spent the last eight seasons as the head coach at South Dakota. Notable athletes during Green's tenure include goalkeeper Mackenzie Viktor, who ranks second in program history for wins and shutouts, and striker Corey Strang, who ranks third for game-winning goals and fifth for total points.

"Mandy is an exceptional organizer and practical trainer," Shrum said. "Her ability to improve the game-insight of each individual player during training and games will advance the development of our team."

Green coached an Academic All-American in Elena Tsakakis, eight all-Summit League honorees and 10 academic all-Summit League team members.

Prior to South Dakota, Green spent the 2009 season as an assistant coach at Xavier and coached at Minnesota State-Mankato from 2003-08, where she helped build the Mavericks into a Division II power.

She served as assistant coach from 2003-06 before being promoted to associate head coach in 2006. Green was heavily involved in recruiting, training and management of the MSU soccer program. During her time at Minnesota State, the Mavericks were consistently ranked in the top 25 and made it to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 three times and won two North Central Conference championships. Minnesota State was ranked as high as No. 4 in the nation in 2007, which was the highest ranking in school history.

Green also coached at the University of Utah from 1999-2003, and served as the program's interim head coach for three months starting in November 2001.

She is a 1999 graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She earned a master's degree in sports psychology from the University of Utah in 2006.

Josh and Mandy have a son, Jack, and a daughter, Ashleigh.

Interesting that she now a volunteer assistant while he is a paid assistant. Mandy was the HC at S. Dakota while he was a volunteer. I guess they do what it takes to keep the marriage going. Nice to see. We can certainly benefit from have someone with DI and post-season D-II head coaching experience as an assistant.
