Men's BKB vs Milwaukee
« on: January 05, 2019, 09:45:02 AM »
I see we are 7.5 point underdogs vs Milwaukee.  It is a winnable game I think.  I think I heard Coach Calhoun say that Naz could have played the last game except for some delay so hopefully his health is fine and he is up to playing.  We need our inside guys to step up and be a bit of a threat.  With that we have a good chance.  Can't believe that Pendersen is not productive.  I was at the Pitt game and he did well against them and seemed to have a bright future.  Not sure what happened.  Need to get the ball inside!! Hopefully Quisenberry continues his excellent play and stays out of foul trouble. I think 2 of his fouls were charges without the ball.

I went back and listening to the post-game comments from Coach and he seemed pissed about the officiating in the GB game, how the Naz deal transpired, and the fact that they're 0-3 when they easily could be 3-0.

I hope the team comes out and plays pissed tonight.  It should be a winnable game.  They need a win badly & maybe that jump starts them with Naz back.

Youngstown St. routs Milwaukee, 76-51 for Horizon League win
« Reply #5 on: January 05, 2019, 08:25:39 PM »
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Garrett Covington scored 15 points and Youngstown State held Milwaukee to just 14 first-half points as the Penguins rolled to a 76-51 Horizon League rout on Saturday.
Youngstown State used 16 players in the road game with 11 contributing points.
Neither team scored early. At the midway point of the first half, the Penguins led by two, 13-11. By halftime that advantage stretched to 10 points, 24-14. Youngstown State went on a 12-1 run to open the second half sparked by a Jelani Simmons dunk and a Darius Quisenberry 3. Simmons layup with 16:21 left made it 36-15. Jamar Madge hit three straight 3-pointers to bring the Panthers back to trail 36-24 but Milwaukee could get no closer.
Simmons and Quisenberry each had 12 points for Youngstown State (5-12, 1-3), which shot 29 of 66 from the field (48 percent), including 12 of 36 from deep.
Darius Roy was the lone scorer to reach double figures with 11 points for Milwaukee (6-10, 1-2).

I couldn't find the link to ESPN+ so I listened to the game.  Was it on and archived? Even the YSU athletics site did not show a link to ESPN+.

Great win in the league on the road.  The freshmen are beginning to produce.  I see Morgan only took 1 shot in 15 minutes. Left to his own I think he might shoot each possession.  Need to play under more control and pass the ball to open teammates. I thought we shot the 3 too much and gave up at times on the inside game.  But it was a great much needed win for the program.

The game was originally scheduled for ESPN+ then Robb Schmidt tweeted on Friday that there was no video available.  Milwaukee was only showing their Milwaukee My24 station for video.  Thought it was very odd.  I can't remember the last time a Horizon League game wasn't on ESPN3 or ESPN+.  WKBN 570 has been posting the radio broadcast archives after the games, but nothing still has been posted for Milwaukee game.

That was a much-needed win- it would have been pretty demoralizing being 0-4 and heading on the road for 2 more games.  I had a feeling we'd either really put it to Milwaukee or was due for a clunker they had.  Crazy to think we could easily be 3-1 if not 4-0 right now.  Good to have Naz back.  Hopefully we can at least split this week's games.

This year the bottom 2 teams don't even get to go to the Horizon tournament.  So hopefully we can stay out of the basement.
