Petit, Olson Receive Weekly Honors
« on: November 11, 2019, 03:34:25 PM »
Youngstown State guard Taylor Petit has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week for her performance during the opening week of the season, the conference office announced on Monday. The website CollegeSportsMadness.com recognized junior Chelsea Olson as its Horizon League Player of the Week.

Petit, a redshirt-freshman from Schofield, Wis., paced the conference with a .619 field-goal percentage in the first two games of her career. She scored 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting in her debut against Canisius on Tuesday, and she had 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists to lead the Penguins in all three categories versus Kent State on Saturday. She played all 45 minutes in the overtime game against the Golden Flashes, going 7-for-10 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line. For the week, Petit averaged 16 points, five rebounds and 3.5 assists.

Olson posted YSU's first triple-double since 1986 with 13 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in the season opener against Canisius. It was the seventh triple-double in program history, and she joined Danielle Carson as the only two Penguins to record one. Olson is one of two Horizon League players since 2012-13 to post a triple-double, and she joins South Carolina's Aliyah Boston and Ohio's Erica Johnson as the only players to have a triple-double in the country this season.

Youngstown State plays two more games this week, including its first road contest of the season. The Penguins will play at Robert Morris on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and they'll return home to host Eastern Michigan at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
