YSU lost to UIC at home
« on: January 31, 2020, 09:03:17 AM »
I was at the game. We practically gave that game away in the 3 mins. What a disappointment....
Poor decision making on the court by the players at the end did us in. Missing critical FT late in the game did not help either.
Here is the article from Tribune-Vindy:

They were up 9 with 3 minutes left to go.  They played like they were down 9.  Spread the floor eat clock.  Shorten the game.  Don't foul so UIC could score without the clock moving.  It was a total collapse.

YSU controlled that game until the last 3+ mins and allowed them to get back in it by not staying focused, fouling & missing FT. It was honestly a reverse of Saturday from how Green Bay played.  They've now given away 2 out of the last 3 at home basically by not shooting respectably at the foul line.

Every time this team has had the opportunity to pull away in the standings & establish itself as one of the top 3 teams it's blown it with losses to Cleveland St when they were 2-0 & now losses in 2 of the last 3 at home in games they should have won. It would be a lot different feel even winning 1 or 2 of these games.

The only thing you can say is in the prior 2 cases they've responded beating Oakland & Detroit after the CSU loss and beating GB after the Milwaukee loss. It's absolutely imperative now they take care of business and win the final 2 home games during this homestand against IUPUI & CSU to get to 7-5.

After the Timeout called by UIC , we were up 9 with the ball coming down court. I was so sure that we were going to run some clock.

We just moved the ball pass the mid-court with almost 25 sec left on the shot clock. The guy jacked a 3 point shot and missed. From that point on, poor defense, stolen in bound pass, missed FT did us in.

When we made a 3 point shot to go up by 3 with less a minute to go. Everyone in the gym knew that we could not afford to give up a 3 (except our guys). They made that 3 and we missed our 3 in the last shot. We went into OT.

I still could not figure out why we didn't try to get the ball down low (with over 20 sec on the shot clock). At least, we could have drawn a foul. Q dribbled the ball for the entire time (with the other 4 guys standing around) before taking a 3 point shot from the top of the key. The game was tied at the time and we surely did not need a 3.
