baseball coaches

w hat is going on with the ysu baseball  coaches. the school has not released any info.have the coaches been  let go and any idea who is being looked at to replace them?

Due to lack of real funding to have a Competitive program.  I love baseball but maybe it needs to be shut down.  Use the money to start a different mens sport.

The Horizon League mandates that all schools participate in men's basketball and either baseball or men's soccer. A replacement for baseball would have to be soccer, which I would personally consider to be an atrocity. However, soccer has a smaller roster size. That sport requires virtually no equipment, and we have our own facility. Financially it probably makes sense to replace baseball with soccer, much as I despise that stupid sport.

Soccer probably would cheaper.  I was thinking lacrosse swimming or wrestling

I think we should point out that the lower divisions have much more scholarship opportunity in both baseball and men's soccer than a DI program. I know for Ohio State, many of the hopeful players go to Columbus State Community College because it is a JUCO program and has over twice as many scholarships to offer as OSU. Also it is direct pipeline to admission at OSU.

There is a media report that assistant coach Trevor Charpie will be promoted to the top job.

On the surface, I find it strange that you would elevate an assistant from such a bad program. On the other hand, Charpie was here only one season, so he is hardly to blame for the bad recruiting and high turnover in the program.  Also, he was a minor league pitcher, and boy do we need to improve that vital phase of the game.

We shall see how this works out. Perhaps this was the best Strollo could do for this less than attractive job.

On the other hand, Charpie was here only one season, so he is hardly to blame for the bad recruiting and high turnover in the program.  Also, he was a minor league pitcher, and boy do we need to improve that vital phase of the game.

We shall see how this works out. Perhaps this was the best Strollo could do for this less than attractive job.

YSU “hired” another coach… he met with the team and everything and then called Strollo a few hours later to back out. This guy was the best we could do given the circumstances, and I mean no disrespect.

When did this happen

Early on in the process. It’s why they made the move to fire in the first place because they thought they had their ducks in a row for said candidate.

I will repeat a point that I made last month. We will never be able to compete financially with the Horizon League contenders in baseball. On the men's side, baseball is our fourth priority. At Wright State and Northern Kentucky, baseball is the second priority. Our two choices, both of which are distasteful, are these: have baseball muddle along underfunded or replace baseball with the travesty of a men's sport called soccer.

YSU has been selling a bill of goods for a quarter century with the “we have no money” BS. If they really wanted to improve the sports programs, they would find it. What we’re seeing is the results of low coach pay, low recruiting budgets, etc. it has created a product that is inferior in most sports. It’s sad because there is a huge alumni base that would love and support a better product on the field.

Amen! The AD has been the Captain of the Ship for nearly a quarter century.  Before anyone comments about his accolades. The Fifth Ave complex was planned way back in the 90s.  The WATTS is the namesake of the former coach and his wife's family.  The press box and theater in Stambaugh were secured by the former President.  The families clearly stated they donated the funds  because of Tressel during the dedication ceremonies.  Not to mention he secured the intramural field from Cafaros and likely the money from Corelli for the support of the Fifth Ave complex.
