Youngstown State rallies to beat Butler 62-60
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP)—Kendrick Perry nailed a 3-pointer with 21 seconds remaining to lead Youngstown State over Butler 62-60 on Thursday night.
The win for the Penguins (8-14, 2-10 Horizon League) was their first against Butler since a 64-62 victory on Jan. 21, 2006. Youngstown State had lost 10 in a row against the Bulldogs.
The Penguins trailed 57-47 with 5:27 left to play, but a 12-3 run—led by seven points from Ashen Ward—cut the deficit to 60-59 with 1:16 on the clock. Perry hit the game-winner after Shelvin Mack missed a 3 with 39 seconds to go.
Mack finished with 18 points, Matt Howard added 12 and Andrew Smith 11 for Butler (14-9, 6-5), which shot 39.7 percent from the field (23 of 58).
Damian Eargle had 16 points and nine rebounds for Penguins, who snapped a five-game losing streak overall with the victory. Blake Allen scored 11 points.
