INDIANA STATE U
« on: September 19, 2011, 06:52:09 PM »
ALL THOSE GOING RAISE YOUR HAND.

Do we have enough to make noise?

I think this will be a different Indiana than we have seen
for many years.

Is tailgating still on the grass?  Or was it upgraded.  Have
not been there in at least 4 years.

Great news to hear you will be making the trip!!!  I tried to find you before the Illinois St game without success???

At any rate, I tried to round up some more from our group to make the trip but it will likely only be 2-4 of us.  We plan to leave my place in Dayton by 8:00a sat morning - should get to the tailgate lot by 11:00a for the 2:00p game (hopefully, the time zone isn't shifting my understanding of the actual game time?) then heading back to Dayton after the game.  As always, you and your crew are welcome to stay at our place on Friday and/or Sat.

Last game in Terre Haute still had plenty of free, wide open, grassy tailgating space.  Happy Penguin and Dracula plan to be there early and intend to set up just off the road nearest the SouthWest corner of the stadium - look for the banner attached to one of the huge Sycamore Trees.

With these two characters, YBR, yourself and me, I think we can make ourselves heard!!! Obviously, the road crowd always seems to enjoy the challenging of making our presence felt - unlike so many of the home fans that won't make any noise until the last drive of a close game.

Just Toyin...So sorry we missed you Saturday, got there later than usual
did not have time to make the rounds.

Indiana game.....not certain we will be there, I was putting out feelers.
If we don't see you then, we'll see you next home game, that is IF you
make the trip.  WE NEVER make promises anymore....part of the Golden years.

Thanks for caring.

Toyin - no time zone change.  Terre Haute - Eastern time zone observing DST.  Go a few miles West to Illinois - Central time zone.

As I have noted a few times in the Road Trip post - 70 West of Indy is a mess right now.  Make sure you have a GPS or map with you if needed and I would recommend allowing more time than usual - at worse you get more time to tailgate.  70 was closed for several hours today due to an accident with a tanker truck carrying uranium.

Indy -

Thanks again for the info - the early Sat a.m. drive to Terra Haute has always had a very light flow of traffic.  Hopefully, there won't be much to slow us down.

Comment this morning on the news was that evening rush hour backups are 3 to 4 miles entering the construction zone.

Toyin - barring an accident I don't see an issue for those coming on Saturday morning.  If it does, just hop off at the first exit you can and head north to US40.  93.1 is the Indy radio station most likely to have traffic and they do have local programming on Saturday mornings.

Those coming Friday evening, just be aware of the above.  You might want to eat / fuel / bathroom before you get to the west side of Indy just in case.

Radio stations in Indy:

93.1  News/talk - mostly local.  Traffic on the ones.

1070 - ESPN Radio - mix of local and ESPN radio shows.  No traffic at all.

1260 - Fox Sports Radio - some traffic reports.

950 - Yahoo Sports Radio with local in evening drive time

Indy, if we left home at 9 AM, that should put our arrival at 3-3:30. From what you've heard, should this enable us to beat the "rush hour" traffic backups? Thanks.

It would be close - rush hour tends to run a bit earlier on Fridays.  I wouldn't want to be much later than 3:30.  I will pay attention tomorrow.

IN OUR PAPER TODAY they talked about having
8000 fans at last weeks game in Indiana.  I can
remember the last three times we went to a game
in Indiana, there would be more like 800.  Basically
the only ones tailgating were from Youngstown.
Remembering it was Tressels 100th win, we made
signs.....and myself and another tailgater spilled three (3)
pound of Gorants Mixed Nuts on the grassy slope.
Those, my friends, were the good ole days.

I'll be cheering from Youngstown Saturday.  Will
miss all of you road warriors.

Saw a highway message board this morning that indicated 70 East bound would be one lane traffic this weekend at mile marker 98.  This is East of Indy in an area I know they have been doing construction.  I do not know if there will be similar restrictions Westbound - it would not surprise me if there is.

The nearest exits are 104 and 96.  The easiest alternate route is US40 which runs about 2 to 3 miles south of 70 (note West of Indy 40 runs north of 70).  If you have a GPS, most of the county road out there run in East / West and North / South grids.  Clearly heading Westbound if you are backed up to 104, it might be worth getting off.

Traffic reports on the radio in Indy are irregular on weekends.  93.1 at the top of each hour is likely your best bet.
