Ohio State giving payday to FAMU in 2013
« on: November 22, 2011, 05:03:57 PM »

Ohio State and Florida A&M, a Football Championship Subdivision school from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, will play on Sept. 7, 2013, at Ohio Stadium. The game will be the first between the two schools on the gridiron. Florida A&M will be paid a guaranty of $850,000.

So does YSU not want to play O$U?

Does O$U not want to play YSU?

Unless YSU does not want the game, it seems like a slap in the face to YSU to give this kind of a payday to an out of state school.

Are you forgetting Coach Tressel is gone from O$U.  Columbus, no doubt,
doesn't think they owe us anything.  Maybe we could (before
then) remind them we are in their state, or should I say, they
are in our state?

Pittsburgh Penguin and Pita are both correct. We do play Michigan St. scheduled for 2013 and with Tressel gone, we probably won't see any more games with Ohio State for a long time.

If Ohio State is going to play an FCS game, in-state schools should always be given the first opportunity.

Given the financial constraints all state schools face, keeping the money in state should be a priority.  As taxpayers all of you living in Ohio should demand this.  The nearly annual OSU games against Ohio MAC schools was the product of "prodding" by certain members of the legislature IIRC.  Perhaps some lobbying to the Board of Regents might be needed.

If YSU chooses to turn it down because of another contract, fine.  If Sparty is paying us close to that, fine.  If not, YSU should be given the opportunity to try to move the game with MSU.

If OSU chooses not to play FCS opponents, fine.  Completely understandable.   But an out of state school should NOT be enriched at the detriment of a state school, that like OSU is taxpayer supported.

Does anyone know if there is a tax break involved because of FLAMU's classification? Also, that is a little bit light of a payout ...most FCS teams are receiving around $600k these days.

We are the only in state 1-aa/fcs team (other than non scollies like dayton) so it's us or nothing. OSU is not going to play us that often.

I can understand not wanting to play the same team most of the time, but then they should play one of the mac schools, still pretty much a sure win and the money stays in state. YSU, Miami, Ohio, Toledo, Bowling Green, Kent and Akron. No doubt that any of these schools could use 850,000.

Ohio State probably plays more in state schools than any other BCS school out there.  They have recently played every team you listed and continue to play in state schools in the future.

2011: Akron, Toledo
2010: Ohio
2009: none
2008: YSU, Ohio
2007: YSU, Akron, Kent State
2006: UC, Bowling Green
2005: Miami (OH)
2004: UC
2003: Bowling Green
2002: Kent state, UC

looks like it is Miami's turn.
