YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown State University football team is looking for a new defensive coordinator.

St. Petersburg, Fla., native Rick Kravitz will not return after two lackluster seasons as the team’s defensive coordinator, a source familiar with the situation confirmed Monday night.

Kravitz, who also coached linebackers his first year and safeties last fall, oversaw a unit that surrendered 25.7 points per game last season.

Opponents averaged 352.3 yards per game against the Penguins.

YSU gave up a season-high 38 points in a four-point loss to Missouri State in the regular season finale, a defeat that cost the Penguins a playoff berth. MSU scored 28 of those points in the second half.

YSU gave up 31.5 points and 411 yards per game in 2010.

The coaching website FootballScoop.com reported that the team will look outside the program for Kravitz’s replacement.

This is the second coaching change for the Penguins since the season ended. Rollen Smith, the team’s cornerbacks coach last fall, was replaced by South Florida defensive quality control coach Glenn Davis in December.

The rest of the coaches were in the YSU offices Monday, a source said.

If I'm not mistaken the "younger Kehres" left Mount for another D3 a year or two ago. To spread his wings a little. Mount Union is his final "destination location if he is smart". Why give up a gauranteed 15 year job....for a hell packed 2-3 gig at YSU?

I watched the D3 championship, and I'm pretty sure the announcers said that Kehres' son was still the DC.  Actually, if the guy expects to replace his dad some day, it would be good for him to work at a level of football much, much higher than he does now.  Should he come here, rebuild our defense, and win big, then he would establish his own credentials and could claim the Mt. Union head job on merit.  Not merely as "daddy's boy."

If Kravitz left on his own, then we are looking. If Kravitz was let go, we have someone of stature in mind already.

he's a FANTASTIC Defensive Coach
not sure who's crack pipe you've been hitting, nobody gives 2 sh**s what he did at Fitch

in his 7 years as DC, Mount Union is 100-5 with 3 NC wins, 4 NC runner up
in those 105 Games, his D allowed 10 points or less 71 Times
in those 105 Games his D allowed a TD or less 64 Times
in thos 105 Games his D pitched 26 Times

in 35 Playoff games, Mount Union is 30-5
in 35 Playoff games, his D allowed 10 points or less 18 Times
in 35 Playoff games, his D allowed a TD or less 16 Times

name someone with a better resume that is reasonable

Hes not a good coach. His Daddy is a good coach. He won't be the DC at YSU. I don't care about the records.

Not sure who you are, but 45 knows his stuff & played big time football for a National Championship team.  I'd say you're the troll.  Don't bash someone for giving their opinion
