Fenwick QB Ricky Davis Commits To YSU
« on: December 21, 2012, 10:28:04 PM »
Bishop Fenwick QB Ricky Davis committed to YSU. Big pick up for us. The kid is legit. 6-3, 200 pounds. Held offers from Illinois, Akron, Kent State, Army and Western Kentucky. Scout has him rated at 2 stars. ESPN has him ranked as the 71st best QB. QB of the future????

Let's not go too crazy here.

He was never able to take the starting job at Moeller, so he transferred to Fenwick ...not necessarily a bad thing just pointing out.

This was a nice steal from Akron ...BG offer never materialized.

He fits well into coach Montgomery's offense, does this mean we are keeping coach M? :)

Has anyone seen him in a game? 4.65 is solid speed for his size.

I really like the way that Wolford recruited the last two quarterbacks.  The big time programs are all over the quality kids that start as juniors.  We have little chance at them.  But the quality kids that play only their senior season might (or might not) slip through the big time recruiting net.  Wargo was blocked and played only one year at Walsh Jesuit.  Now Davis was blocked at Moeller and played only one year for a smaller program.  Far better to take chances on kids like that then to recruit a two or even three year high school starter that received no interest from big time programs.

Some nice insights there Wick. If he follows this pattern of 1 QB every season you only really need to snag a quality starting QB every 3 classes or so, the risk is low and the potential reward very nice. Hopefully if we end up starting a freshman QB anytime in the future it'll be because the kid was so good that he blew the coaches away and was better than these already good QB's we have, not simply that he's ALL we have.

After this year with Hess, I think it comes down to Wargo and this kid Davis. Two good talents and good finds by the coaching staff
