Men vs. Canisius
« on: March 23, 2013, 08:37:26 PM »
I cannot believe we have given away a 17-point lead, and THEN a 22-point lead. We do not deserve to win this game! I just cannot believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once again we do not take care of business at home in overtime!  No way in hell should we have lost this game with everyone healthy!  We let one guy beat us! Billy Baron.

No excuse. Worst half of basketball of the entire season. What a terrible way to go into the off-season. I would just skip the post-game interview ...this cannot be put into words. Now Belin has to feel terrible the entire off season, when that was not even a foul, and that certainly did not cost us the game. Where was the coaching?

They did the same two plays the entire second half. Inbound (God for forbid we put any pressure to take them out of their rhythm), pass to the right side, across for two "lays it in...". Or, across the right side & back out for three ..."perfect". All the announcer had to due was play the recoding back over and over. All we had to due was get in their face once in a while on the inbound, and try to play any kind of defense, against a team that was certainly not close to being our equal.

Slocum should be fired just for losing this game. He might be the worst at in game adjustments.... Because he makes none. Sticks with his game plan no matter what. Well Jerry, it cost you the game and you let Canisius go on a 20-0 run

Sick and tired of losing games at home that are winnable games!  This game was all but gift wrapped to us, and what happens! We lose another OT game, that should never have got to that point.  This team has to learn how to protect the home court, or else YSU is not going anywhere let alone Horizon league titles and tourney appearances that our coach said he and the team covets.

Obvious bad coaching AGAIN by Slocum.  Yes we have made some strides in 8 years with Slocum but it took 8 years to win 18 games.  If we can bring in high priced football assistant football coaches then we have the funds from somewhere to pay a new basketball coach.    This will be the best we will do under this coaching staff for a few reasons:

1.  We rely on the 3 pointer and when it is off we have no other offense to turn to.

2.  Lack of inside presence that can bang around and score.  Every team we play has a big guy so no excuse from you fans saying we cannot get a big guy. We are a mid-major team so we should have inside players that can contribute more.  Bullsh** excuse.

3.  No bench. He never plays the bench so they are underdeveloped. 7 man rotation has to stop.

4.  Bad game day coaching.  No adjustments just panic. Didn't we lose 3 overtime games at HOME? Wow!

It will interesting to see how next year goes now that we lose Eargle and Allen.  Even with KP we should expect a .500 season at best.  Recruiting 2 guys for inside is needed.  We shall see.

I think we will be better nex year. With Bobby and Kam up front. And then hopefully DJ continues to work on his shot so him and KP in the backcourt will be fun to see. Plus DJ is a pure PG unlike KP or Blake. The one question will be who starts at the 3? Amiker? Maybe Beamon? Or maybe Larry Johnson Jr. who sat out the whole season? Or does Weber step up and take it. We shall see

The women finished 14-1 at home and played very hard in every game and for the entire game.  As a result, people left the gym happy with the outcome and satisfied with the effort.  That eventually led to swelling crowds by the end of the season.  Now shift to the men.  Canisius might be slightly better than us or we might be slightly better than them.  No one can believe that Canisius is good enough to overcome a 22 point deficit in 18 minutes without a YSU meltdown.  And meltdown it was.  We lost focus, the defensive pressure stopped, the ball handling became careless.  Such lapses are, unfortunately, not rare occurrences for our fans who attend regularly.  Until Slocum can produce a team that, like the women, plays hard for 40 minutes every game, YSU basketball will remain an afterthought in this community.

My point exactly, you have to be dominant at home to be a good team because chances are you are going to be 500 or below on the road.  The ladies took care of business at home, thus won over 20 games.  The men while having a decent record at home finished 6-10 on the road thus did not reach the magic 20-won mark so many on this board had hoped for.  Good teams like Valpo, Akron and other 20-plus win teams take care of business at home.  So did our ladies.  Do that and you'll have a YSU men's and women's team the fans will come out to see.  10-4, 10-5 at home does not cut it for a 20-win season, and most likely a sub-500 record.  That's why I get so frsutrated when this team loses focus at home.  Yesterday was agreat example!  Thank you Wick.

Once again this loss goes back to coaching. Why do you not sub in someone like Weber and Hain when Canisius started their run and we got complacent. He has no confidence in the kids he brought in and hes worked with all season. It gives them no confidence and shows he coaches scared instead of being aggressive. It has been the same all
year. If the younger kids do anything wrong he jerks them and they sit but the starters can give up on defense and lose leads and he rides them into the ground. The only sub he uses is amiker who cannot shoot the ball. The technical foul was all Slocums fault too.
