Former Youngstown State defensive tackle Aronde Stanton has signed a free-agent contract with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He will report to the team later this month.

Stanton, a two-year starter for the Penguins, is the first YSU player to be a member of the league since wide receiver Kyle Smith was on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' roster.

In 2012, he led the team with 7.5 tackles for losses and was second with four sacks. He had 37 total tackles, including 21 solo stops. He started all 11 games as a junior in 2011 and was credited with 32 total tackles.

A native of Detroit, Mich., Stanton transfered to YSU after playing a year at Grand Rapids Community College. He spent two years at Division II Northwood prior to his season at GRCC.

Calgary has two preseason games - June 14 and June 20 - prior to its season opener on June 28.
