YSU Picks Up First Dual Win Beating Niagara, 191-100

Niagara, N.Y. - The Youngstown State swimming and diving team picked up its first dual win of the season with a 191-100 win over Niagara on Saturday at the Purple Eagles' Oxy Aquatic Center.

The Penguins opened the meet with a 1:50.38 in the 200-medley relay by Ashley Dow, Hannah Reynolds, Laura Paz and Jana Janson. Then the Guins won 13 of the 14 individual events against the Purple Eagles.

Dow, Therese Stevens, Reynolds and Paz were two-event winners on the afternoon for the Guins.

Stevens was first with a time of 1:59.00 in the 200 free and the 100 free at 55.29 seconds.

Dow cruised to a win in the 100-yard backstroke with a ti of 58.45 seconds and the 200 back with a time of 2:09.27.

Reynolds first in the 100-yard breaststroke by five seconds with a time of 11:08.90 and won the 200 event with a time of 2:36.24.

Paz won the 200 fly with a time of 2:11.91 as well as the 100 fly with a time of 59.38 seconds.

Janson won the 50 free with a time of 25.12 seconds and was second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.21. Hanna Martin won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:27.53 and in the 1,000-yard freestyle, she was second with a time of 11:08.54.

Bec Stafford placed first in the one-meter diving with a score of 259.05 and later won the three-meter event with a 283.13.

Megan Ciampa won the final individual event of the dual with a time of 4:50.72.

YSU closed out the meet winning the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.27.

The Penguins return to action next Saturday at Duquesne.

Just posting this so people see how much our programs have come on over the past few years. Up until last year we could not even field anything but divers.
