Just the 2nd time since 1997 that a Horizon League team has swept UWGB in the season series! They went on a 9-0 run to start the 2nd half and never looked back. UWGB made it interesting late, but we held on and come away with a VERY impressive road win over the class of the league!

Got some huge games coming up at home vs. UIC, CSU, and Wright State! We need big turnouts for each of them! If we win out, we are Horizon League Champions!

GO GUINS!

It has been a long time since I have been this proud of a YSU sports team, perhaps all the way back to the overachieving football championship bunch in 1997.  Two weeks ago against a bad Oakland team, we looked like we had hit a wall and were going to limp to the finish line.  To perform at this level in front of a large, hostile crowd against a desperate, highly motivated Green Bay team was just sensational.  Let's see....a YSU basketball team playing a very good team on the road, overcoming the environment, shrugging off shaky calls from officials, refusing to lose. Well, we see that all the time. :o

Great win for YSU. Yes, GB is having a down year by GB standards, but they are still a solid team. And, I believe the announcers on HL Network said this was the first time GB was swept in the regular season since 97-98.

Way to go Penguins!!!!!!!!

Just a few more things to add now that the box score is available.  In our January win, they outrebounded us rather badly.  Today, we won on the boards, 42-30.  Hirsh surprised Green Bay in the first game with 20 points; I figured they would clamp down on her today.  Instead she scored 16, some at crucial times.  I was worried about turnovers with their pressure and in that environment.  We did turn it over 20 times but also forced them into 16.  That was acceptable.

Go to the YSU athletic site and access the highlights link from the game write-up.  That will lead you to the Green Bay post-game press conference.  No respect whatsoever from the Green Bay coach.  Would not even call "21" and "15" by their names.  Only grudging acknowledgement of our play.  At the very end of the conference, Green Bay's star player (who we held to 3 points) did give us credit for out-playing them.

He's just mad he got out coached by one of his former assistants! Sucker
