Youngstown State senior second baseman Phil Lipari was voted to the Bloomington Regional All-Tournament Team for his performance in the Penguins' three games at Bart Kaufman Field.
Lipari batted .333 with a double, four runs scored and two stolen bases as YSU beat Indiana State and lost to Stanford and Indiana. The Poland, Ohio, native singled and walked against the Hoosiers, and he followed that up with a single, a walk, two steals and two runs scored as the Penguins earned their first NCAA Tournament win over the Sycamores. In the last game of his career against the Cardinal, Lipari singled, doubled, walked and scored twice.
Lipari ended his career by hitting safely in 12 consecutive games, and the Most Valuable Player of the Horizon League Tournament batted .444 over his final 16 games.
Lipari was joined on the All-Tournament Team by five Stanford players, including Most Outstanding Player Tommy Edman. Edman hit a walk-off two-run home run to beat Indiana 5-4 in a winner-take-all game late Monday night. There were four Hoosiers on the team and one Sycamore.
Lipari joins Jim Phillips as the only Penguins in school history to earn All-Tournament Team honors at an NCAA Regional.
