Jimmie Kitchen, a DL has transferred from Georgia Tech to us. He was suspended indefinitely by the Yellow Jackets, reason unknown. He played sparingly and battled injuries his 3 years at Georgia Tech. Listed at 6-3, 270.

Kind of mixed on this one. Definitely a need but it sounds like he may not be on the field much before something derails him.

I echo HappyPenguin's thoughts on this kid. In today's Vindicator, he is listed already as the backup nose tackle.  Hope that this is not an act of absolute desperation on Wolford's part.

Also see that Iowa transfer Taylor is starting at middle linebacker and Miami transfer Dortch will man one corner.  Hopefully, they can make a big difference.

Most of the transfers are starters or immediate back-ups. That's what you want because they are better than what you have recruited . And several are young and have years to play here.  KItchen backs up a  Senior   who missed games with injuries last year.  The transfers are  filling needs lost and creating depth where its thin.

It definitely helps with depth. Especially with Zaborsky and Octavius being hurt often. I like the move

Anyone know Jimmie's status?  Saw him on the sidelines in sweats the past few weeks.  He didn't appear to have an injury issue.

Wolf said this week he was rounding into shape and getting acclimated with the defense. Will be playing from here on out which is good news for the DL.

How hard is it to learn to go straight ahead and get blocked?

Ahhhh.....the all great "vanilla" excuse.  Which is probably the exact truth.  How dare YSU show even a quarter of the playbook on both sides of ball or better yet, a player.....shhhhhh.....we can't let anyone see him play before conference games start.

I'm so sick and tired of that damn excuse already.  The defense is not very good, it has been atrocious for 4 years now.  Trust me, a single player is not going to make that big of a difference.  The best thing YSU could do is show everyone the entire playbook, that way they may actually have something to plan for.  Instead of the typical, throw at #1 and #8 or when all else fails throw it down the middle.  Either way, your QB is going to have a BIG day.

Travis Williams. Guy is the one of the most athletically gifted players I've seen in awhile... A senior, and he's playing special teams.

I think thats the very reason the defense under this ever changing regime lacks LEADERSHIP, CONTINUITY and any other adjective you can come up with.  This idea of playing underclassmen if the coach considers you equal is an issue in my eyes.  If you think about it you are always making the same mistakes and never grow into the position.  Clearly coaching or lack there of plays a big part in this as well.  Pick the countless LBs in the 90s and they were the leaders on the field.  They will remain nameless but there are other Seniors on the defense that under the "Wolford Rule" should clearly be displaced by underclassmen too....

Before we use up all of the tar and pitchforks, I believe it was said that Jimmie Kitchen still had a NCAA suspension (from Ga. Tech.) of 4 games to serve.

Worth noting on the Penguin Playbook show last night on 570 WKBN that Wolford said Kitchen will be starting next week in the middle of our DL. He went onto say that Kitchen may be the best "ever" at YSU.

Him and Rivers could be a lethal duo the next few years! However, let's see how he looks before we crown him the best.
