Volleyball Tied For First Place in HL!!
« on: October 20, 2014, 07:58:41 AM »
The volleyball team beat Cleveland State on Friday at CSU to improve to 14-8/5-2. YSU is now tied for 1st place with Oakland(13-9/5-2) and UWM(11-10/5-2). This was YSU's 4th match win in a row, including a win against UWM.

The 2nd half of HL play starts Friday at Wright State and then at Oakland on Saturday.

Here is the link to a recap of the win at CSU on Friday.

Glad to see the team recover after a slow start in league competition.  Still have road matches at Oakland and Milwaukee but, obviously, the home court advantage is insignificant compared to basketball. At the moment we might be playing the best volleyball in the league.  Keep it up ladies.

Also, the soccer team, traditionally our weakest female sport, is treading water at 2-2-1 in league play.  If we can beat CSU at home on Wednesday and win a road match against a relatively weak UIC , we might be able to finish third.  For this program, that would be great.

Soccer team beat CSU 2-1 on Wednesday to improve to 7-6-2/3-2-1.... YSU is now in 3rd place in the HL and CSU drops to 4th.

YSU has 2 games remaining, both on the road. Sat at Green Bay(9-5-2/3-3) and next Friday at UIC(2-14/0-6). Would be great to see YSU win both of these games and finish in 3rd place. If YSU can win 1 of the 2 games, they will finish the regular season at 8-7-2/4-3-1. Not bad given the past history of soccer at YSU.

Hopefully the new soccer complex combined with WATTS is helping the coaching staff with recruiting.

Don't pay attention to the above posts! These stories are false! We all know that Strollo is the root of all evil and nothing good will come out of YSU athletics while he is AD.  No doubt these stories are made up. YSU can get away with planting these stories because so few people go to volleyball and soccer matches.  ;)

The volleyball team split over the weekend, winning at Wright State on Friday and losing at Oakland on Saturday.
YSU is now 15-9/6-3 and in 3rd place. They are 1 game behind Oakland(15-9/7-2) and Milwaukee(13-10/7-2)

YSU is at home this weekend. They play UIC(11-13/5-4) on Friday and Valpo(19-6/5-4) on Saturday. Two wins would go a long way toward giving YSU an outside chance at an HL Regular season title, and at worst a 3rd place finish. 2 wins would also help in the quest for a winning record in the HL and a winning record overall.

The soccer team lost 2-0 at Green Bay. YSU is now 7-7-2/3-3-1 and finish the regular season on Friday at UIC(2-15/0-7). A win would enable YSU to finish above .500 overall and also in the HL. A win would also enable this years team to tie the school record for most wins at 8(done in 2012). This year team currently has the 2nd most wins in a season in program history. YSU has had women's soccer since 1996, and NEVER finished at .500 or better in the HL, or for the overall record. The best season record wise was in 2012, when the team finished 8-9/3-4.

With a win on Friday, YSU will finish HL play at 4-3-1, and be guaranteed of at worst a .500 season overall(provided a win on Friday and then loss in 1st game of HL tournament). A win Friday and then in 1st round of HL Tournament, and YSU would have the first overall winning record in school history!!

YSU already completed the programs first ever unbeaten home season, going 6-0-2 this year.
