Offensive 2nd half adjustments
« on: November 08, 2014, 05:13:10 PM »
Including today...... This cannot be ignored any longer.... Yes, the defense is sub par. We all know this. But the last 2 years, in our biggest games. Notice a theme in the 2nd for our "historic and record setting offenses"...... It's unreal that this man keeps getting let off the hook!!!

The defense is put into bad spots being on the field for almost 30 mins in the second half.. Sub par?? I'd say no help  ::)

According to the stats YSU was outscored 72-6 in the 4th quarter of those games.............  One word: CHOKE......... If it isnt the defense its the offense.  If it isnt the offense its special teams... Anyone see a pattern?

This loss was on the whole team...offense, defense, special teams, coaches, etc. They will all learn from it and will get the W next Saturday

The issue isn't the loss per se. If you had YSU going 8-4 for the season and 2-2 in the last two games, you had this one as a predictable loss. The real issue is how the team lost. Didn't look like a team that wanted to go to the playoffs in the second half. YSU is on the bubble now--don't be surprised to hear that FCS selection committee members are starting to watch YSU games to figure out (once again) what to do with this team. Can't have another let down like this.

All around 2nd half debacle by D, O, and Specials in the second half.. Just need to move on now and hope we take care of business next week. Need to root for NDSU tonight.

Here is the reality ohiofootball......Eric Wolford's legacy at YSU will be that his teams more often than not....laid eggs in the 2nd halves of games.  I'm sorry, but that's on the Head Coach and no one else.

Agree with you on whole team loss. Funny how ILS special teams had no issues today. Probably because they did not have to punt. what good will a win next week do us? ISU is exposed as a non-playoff team. We need to destroy them an then beat NDSU ...hoping NDSU does not choke on Panther meat ...or UNI takes our play-off spot.

You don't think 3 teams from the MVFC get in? If we win next week, we are in 3rd place with SDSU and we beat them so we should get the 3rd spot. Just need NDSU to win tonight and they are getting beat right now!  :(

Eric Wolford resembles the central character in a bad movie.  He has good qualities but also possesses a tragic flaw that does him in at the conclusion.  Wolford recruits well.  He excels in pre-game preparation which is reflected in our many first half performances.  But he is among the worst in the nation at responding to opposing coaches' half time adjustments.  That tragic flaw forces us to watch the same bad movie over and over and over again.

You are both right. What is in question is whether or not they will learn and get better. The losses are always on the HC. Remember ILS scored 28-points on us in the second half ...yes I count the taking of a knee with 1st-and-goal on the 2 and over 2-minutes remaining as a score. This team is so desperately in need of a skilled big back on offense. We have got to be able to take control on offense without gimmicks.

The special teams is where there was a huge let down.   The special teams play had a lot more to do with the game outcome than most people think.  We played a very good top ten team.  They may be the best in the mvfc.  The special teams were terribly bad.  The special teams cost us field position on multiple drives. we didn't have a significant return on punts or kicks. As a matter of fact the return game on special teams was substandard once again. We improperly fielded at least two punts and one kickoff return. On one of the returns we fumbled the ball around the 2 yard line.  Having the two field goals blocked also changed the game because had we made those two field goals we would have been under a seven-point game in the 4th quarter and only needed a field goal to win it.  the 7 yard punt was also essentially a turnover and we gave them a gift there.  yes the defense struggled, yes we didn't make very good adjustments and the defensive line was completely neutralized. Yes the offense couldn't get it going at critical times at the end of the game.that's going to happen against good teams and you have to be able to put yourself in a position to win. We lost the toss at the beginning of the game yet we did not choose the wind at our backs in the 4th quarter. I think it is a different game had we made the two field goals and had we not given up the second butt punt.  it might have been a different game had we had a couple decent returns. It might have been a different game if we didn't fumble a kickoff on the 2 yard line. Special teams is one third of the game and there was no emphasis to make big plays in this area. There were opportunities there and everyone underperformed. That's my two cents
