I’d love to play them every year…only wish it paid more. I also understand running it up to improve your rankings. But If my dad didn’t have his contract renewed as head coach at Poland in 1985 and I was head coach at Massillon in 2024, I might run up the score but I would hope I’d keep my mouth shut on the reason.

I was at the YSU-Penn State game in 2006 and Penn State had just got a first down with under two minutes to go at the YSU 18. The receivers coach was Mike McQueary who was relaying plays from the offensive coordinator. McQueary took off his head set figuring they would take three knees and run out the clock. I was sitting in he stands right behind the bench and Paterno signaled let’s go and McQueary put his head set on and the punched one last TD to make it 37-3. I guess FBS coaches can’t help themselves squeezing every nickel from the FCS payday.

Narduzzi had two previous games vs YSU to exact his revenge. Was he using the firing of his father the excuse for destroying YSU on Saturday? He never mentioned that this game is  “personal” the last two times he coached against YSU.

Why did he make it personal this year?Is Phillips the sort of coach you want to make it personal against? Maybe when YSU played him in 2017 and 2018 and lost 45-37 and 28-21 in OT he wasn’t sure Pitt was good enough
to make it “personal.” Imagine him saying that when Pelini was at YSU. Now our program is down and Phillips is a quiet gentleman and confident Pitt will steamroll YSU…so I’m going to step out and say this is “personal.” What a bush league gesture.

Little by little my love of college football fades. With NIL, it will be survival of the financial fittest. It’s turned in to MLB when you can spend as much or little as you want to compete. We shouldn’t be able to compete with Pitt in this scenario. Everything has changed.

Going to the MAC would make us a little less irrelevant than we are now. As low as the MAC is in FBS it is still more relevant than FCS. The only game of the year FCS gets noticed is the money games. IAA championship on CBS made it seem relevant. FCS championship on ESPN2 opposite NFL playoffs not so relevant.

Wick is right on the money as usual. Until we know what is our baseball budget is it is tough to make comparisons. I’m just glad that we still have baseball in our budget. With the challenging landscape of college sports, to still have football, men’s and women basketball, track and field, baseball and softball is a credit to the university. I wish we would we competitive year in and year out in all our sports, but at least year round I can find a sport to root for.

The NCAA should have learned from Major League Baseball. For years, MLB used the reserve clause to keep their players for as long as they wanted them. The NCAA restrictions weren’t as bad as Major League Baseball but considering that the players received just room, board and tuition when millions were being reaped in by the NCAA and the colleges was extremely unbalanced.

The NCAA when confronted with the amount of money being made by the NCAA and the colleges made no effort to compensate the players. When the courts ruled in the players’ favor, it became like free agency in Major League Baseball…players going to the highest bidder…my team be damned.

If the NCAA had developed a better compensation plan before it went to the courts it may have been able to avoid the runaway freight train it has become.

The visibility of the CBI and CIT is so low with the NCAA and NIT playing at the same time. Last year vs Oklahoma State was a great experience. As diminished as it is, it’s still the NIT. If you have a team with a lot of returning starters maybe the CBI and CIT are worth it. But with one and done seniors, it’s probably not worth the money. If the NCAA Tournament expands to 76 teams, maybe the NIT will bring back the mid-majors.
