YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Spring Practice
« on: February 19, 2018, 02:39:46 PM »
They've been splitting reps with 1st team. In other news, I believe Richmond is going to be a starter at DE next year with Reed. He's a beast.
That is the way to handle the reps if it is an honest competition.  Looking forward to 1AA's days in practice for feedback on who looks the best, noting that who looks best in Spring Ball means virtually NOTHING!
I believe what you say about Richmond, unfortunately, maybe in more ways that one!
Frankly you need at LEAST a 3 man rotation at DE and Johnson is solid too.  More important is who plays 3rd down!  I'm also looking forward to seeing RFr Cook at DE.  In Rivals I believe he is the highest rated Pelini recruit since coming to YSU.

Cook was a three star recruit.  He was ranked at .80 from 247
Pollock was a three star recruit. He transferred in from Rutgers. He was ranked at .83 from 247
I’m sure there are guys ranked higher than those 2.

I don't know if this is a "great" team, but it damn sure ought to be a "very good" team.  I expect us to be competitive in every game (including WVU and NDSU, both on the road)  Anybody think this team won't make the playoffs, because I sure expect do!

The only thing I see holding them back is key injuries and inexperienced coaches

looks that that will be about it.  could be Bo's best class ever.
My votes:
Biggest beast ever signed: Henry Yoboue  This kid has only played FB a couple years, and is a huge project, but huge is the key word!
Biggest 1st year D impact: Griffin Hoak  Position is "open" so should start.  6-1 225 is ideal MVFC LB size  Football family, has instincts, coaching, and non-stop motor.
Biggest offensive impact: Zach Farrar  Position as also "open" and JUCO experience will help a lot in transition.  6-4 WR is just what the Dr ordered and this kid was originally an Oklahoma recruit.  Footnote. Biggest newcomer on O, Braxton Chapman RFr. This kid is going to be a load, but second year at YSU.
Biggest special teams impact:  Tempted to go with Grant Gonya, but deferred to bounce back year by Kennedy. so now on Dra Rushton as kick returner.
Biggest career impact: Jayden Cunningham.  QB has all the advantage over any other position.
Love to read what others think.

So according to you Hoak is going to play MLB instead of AD. I don’t think so. He’s not going to play Will or Buck cuz he’s too slow

Dra Rushton of Liberty received an offer and is more than likely going to sign with the Penguins.

Only real offer was from Air Force

Your point??
Dra has committed.
Also had an offer from Albany, and D2 Malone.

Think u already made it

Devanere Crenshaw, a 6-0 185 DB from Riverside City College has committed.

If that is the JC in Los Angeles, that is a great program. You may remember that Heacock got an "in" there years back. Some of you are are saying that we need a JUCO QB ... let's see if Crenshaw will bring their QB with him.

Their QB is going to Minnesota

Jake Benio, a 6-3 235 TE from Marietta, GA has committed.

Better baseball player than football player. He’s a project. But with TE’s we have it’s one that can be afforded

Will Henry, a 6-5, 245 DE from St. Ed’s has committed. Had an offer from Cincinnati. Basketball player as well. Still learning the position. Bo will get his hands on him and work the magic.

His Cincy offer was for a preferred walk on

So McNutt to DC

Crist to OC

Marlowe has moved to WR coach I know that.

DB coaches spots to be filled soon.

I would assume that you are correct BUT nothing has been announced to the players

We should be adding some beef on the O-Line soon if everything pans out as I've heard it.

Well you have the kid from JUCO out of California coming in this weekend for a official visit

I am hearing it is a done deal that Brian Crist will be the new offensive coordinator.  He is currently the wide receivers coach.   Bo knows his needs better than us, but was hoping he would bring in an experienced play caller. Hope Crist is ready.

Also likely Richard McNutt D coordinator, that was written on this site long ago, but not a done deal.

Hopefully your wrong and he brings in some experience on both sides

I understand what you are saying ET, but this transfer has zero experience. Mays did tuck a great deal, but I think, at least in part, that is what he was told to do. Granted it may have become a crutch. As to Pelini, that is no step up & if that is the case, Montgomery will not be leaving. If we lose all three coaches, we are in a world of hurt in the short term. I really had hopes that Bo would build a power coaching staff with local flavor, so our long-term prospects would be in-house.

Let us consider another scenario, his father comes as OC with the condition that the son will be given an opportunity to compete for the starting QB). In the following year, if Bo leaves, he would be considered as Bo's replacement.

His father coaches Defense

Notre Dame QB Montgomery VanGorder has announced he is transferring in.

Class of 2014 recruit. Has not seen any game action. Has been scout team QB and place holder for his career. He walked onto ND when his father was hired as offensive coordinator, who was fired last year.

Dual threat guy. Let's hope he can make a difference here.

I am hearing that he is not the only VanGorder coming in.

Hope your right about his father. That would be a excellent hire
