YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: RMU Game
« on: February 14, 2024, 09:23:35 PM »
Nice win and way to dominate on the boards.  I need to check out our defence percentage against 3 point shooting .  Seems like we're getting beat on that stat on a consistent basis but kind of tough when guys like Corbin are hitting them from the Y logo.

Thompson left it all on the court and hopefully his ribs are ok from his tumble.   You usually hear let the game come to you but Brett Thompson takes it to the game the man is audacious.

DJ Burns is automatic with double doubles.   I would rather see him with pump fakes and drives in the paint and mix in a jump hook instead of falling  in love with the 3 ball.  He's rebounding late in the season at another level.

RMU has been a program the last few years that has finished below YSU in the conference but has several times knocked us off.  Two years ago in the Horizon league tourney they came into Beeghley and walked out with a W.

Last season in our 24 win championship season they won late in the season in Pittsburgh by 19 and they were 8th in the conference.  Probably going to be a battle tonight especially if our D resembles the GB debacle.

This game was lost on the defensive side.   GB was hitting 3s and Ruedinger was taking anyone from YSU off the dribble.    Coach even said it  was the defense in the post confernce but can we ask why ?   Why isn't the defense ready to play and make the stops and do the work to win a big conference game.

Burns and  Thompson were tremendous and Ziggy couldn't get going because of fouls.   I thoughy Rush would be the face of the program and he was disappointing yesterday.   Got to win one of those tough games on the road to make up for not protecting the home court but RM won't be laying down for us.

Frustrating watching this game GB running screens and guys cutting and running to spots while YSU is going one on one.  The one guy for GB who is going iso is killing us.

I think the key is to slow down Noah Reynolds. He is the leader that can break down the D and gets the ball to their open shooters or he's  athletic and talented enough do get his.    Got to make him uncomfortable.  Not sure anyone in the leauge so far has accomplished this.

Gabe Dynes came in and made the difference in the game .  He totally intimidated UM front court.   Milwaukee is a tough matchup with their length and their very athletic.  Not looking forward to playing at their court.

Mental mistakes is causing YSU to give this game back to Milwaukee.  A dumb 10 second call and a stupid lob. Shouldn't  blow a 10 point with 3 minutes to go.  Not to mention ziggy fouling on a 3 pt shot.

Tough loss.  Guys fought to the end but PFW ran their offense efficiently.  Jalen Jackson was the best payer on the court today.   YSU's height advantage in the interior never materialized as the guys struggled to bully the ball on the inside.

Ziggy might of had his worst game of the season and Thompson struggled.  Credit PFW.

PFW brings a different look then most teams in the Horizon.   They play with one post and four  guards that are always probing with penertration and finding the cutter or kicking the ball out.   Defense needs to stay in front the whole shot clock and guys need to be good in their switches.

Going to bed happy ;D.   Defense was way better the 2nd half.   Burns was terrific as was Langdon.   Farmer and Lovelace were effective off the bench.   Zorgval had 0 points but was key protecting the rim.
Noticed after Rush missed his dunk  he pretty  much sat on the bench.

Brett Thompson is the guy if he's not on your team then he's the villain.   His turnovers were costly but he still played his rear off.

I noticed that Dynes had the wrap off his hand at the NKU game while Bates was hobbling with the boot on.  Not sure if the boot caused him to hobble or the injury is still severe ?

If Ziggy and Burns can stay away from silly fouls then I'm good with those two and Zorgvol .   Dynes would be a bonus.

Damien Eagle is living in town now.  Is he still playing?

Looks like his pro career in Canada was one game unless the site is incomplete with their info.

Guys are going to need to bring their A game tonight.   Need the bigs to stay out of foul trouble . Wright State is tough in the post and Trey Calvin can go off on a scoring spree.  Trey is tough off the bounce so I hope someone like Farmer can distrupt his game.

The X factor for Wright State is Alex Huibregtse.  He led them on 8 of 13 from the field againt us at Beeghly so we don't need him getting confidence either.

Ucf,
I don’t see Kendrick Perry being listed. He played in the World Cup for Macedonia last year. Is he still playing in Europe?

Bottom of first paragraph I had him in with Marcus Keene in the no-brainer category.  I'm sure I missed some though.

Here's a few ex Penguins playing over seas. Slocum and Calhoun era. Actually there has been a bunch that have played in the program over the years.  Some of these names you might remember or not.  A lot of them transferred from YSU.  Some only played one season of pro ball. I'm sure I missed a few.
Two no brainers are Kendrick Perry and Marcus Keene.
