In a sick twisted way Narduzzi may have done us favor.  The man exposed just how bad YSU Football is right now.  It was an eye opener for everyone in involved.

This week will tell alot about the program.  If they get embarrassed again it's time for serious changes.

I find all of this hilarious. We had a top 16 team last year with a solid offense and a defense that was good enough to get us to that point until we ran into a better team. All of this coming from a team that Penislini decimated with zero recruiting. We got better each year until all of this portHOLE and NIL money got involved and we lost 9 starters on defense due to 💰 💰 💰. I would love to see what would happen if tressel was coaching with the players he had back in the early 90s and NIL and the portHOLE was around. OSU, MSU, UM, Pitt, Penn state, WV would have picked those players like ripe fruit off a tree for cash. They would not have given two sh**s about winning NCs if someone offered them $500,000. College football died,  it just doesn’t know it yet.

Was hoping the hurricane would move that far west but it looks like it will not affect the passing game and move out there.  :o :P

Watched replay on ACC network. Pitt up 66-17 with 5:00 minutes left and throwing. BS!  Hope Pitt loses the rest of their games.

This will be the beginning of college sports player associations - mark it!! This will force players to unionize and be represented in negotiations. College sports does, it just doesn’t know it yet.

Meant to say: college sports died it just doesn’t know it yet.

We will need to score 50 and I just don’t think we have the capacity to do so. We can get maybe 30. Defense can’t be fixed that quickly.

Go to 1:50 til 6:00 minute mark. These guys are spot on. They have been covering western PA and Ohio sports for years. One played for Bill at YSU and they have some stories on Pat.

Ned stone some improvement. Sustained drives. No turnovers. Don’t get behind big early. Defensively we definitely need to see some improvement in run defense. Don’t get embarrassed. Stay in the game. Get the check and come home.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Phillips Brungard Defense Crowd size

Definitely Crenshaw era repeat. What was Davidson able to do that Crenshaw couldn’t?  SPREAD AND STRETCH THE DEFENSE!  It’s not rocket science. When teams know you can’t throw deep then they load up and force a non thrower to throw the ball. His pick in the end zone is why he shouldn’t be starting. Put him in a position he can succeed. The way the defense is playing, put him on defense!  As far as DP I’ll continue to support him but he needs to pull the trigger on this qb thing asap!  We knew the defense was going to be the issue after the flood gates opened to the portal and we going to have to score 35 or more points just to be in the game. But they need to get after it!  Crowd size…it is what is. We will never get back to 1990s numbers. Poor performance doesn’t help!!

Here is my two cents. Brungard is not the guy. Said it last year and will continue to say it. We have absolutely no deep threat so teams load up and it shows. Duquesne coach completely understood the job. Shut down the run and make us throw which we can no do past 3 yards sideways. I could coach against this offense. Very poor execution. On the drive before half he threw off his back foot because that’s all he knows. He’s not the qb of our future. Let Blanc or Schondelmeyer throw the ball at least 30 yards downfield to spread the defense!!!!  Speaking of defense it might as well be hodge podge!  They have no idea how to tackle or stop the run!! Pathetic!! Completely disgusted and not satisfied. We put too much into this program to lose to Duquesne
!!  We expect more!!  And demand more!!  Going to Pitt next week to watch a debacle unless we change qb. Will have a good time in Pittsburgh but other than that I see us at 1-3 until we meet Missouri state.

Thoughts after attending game. Defense is terrible against both the run and pass.  Beau is a tough guy, good runner but lacks the arm strength to play at this level.  Had a guy wide open about 40 yards down field and could not get the ball to him.  You do not have to have a 70 yard arm but you do need a 40 yard arm which he doesn’t have.

Agreed. We knew this was going to be the scenario. Tough opener and our weaknesses were exposed. Defense is all new and a new coordinator. Offense is one dimensional which we also knew was going to be the issue if BB is qb. We will need to continue to get better on defense the next two weeks. I don’t expect a win at Pitt but we need to see some improvement and good plays now and then in order to see an improvement. If we can’t throw 40 yards and not push the dbacks deeper we will be in for a long year.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Villanova Game Week!!!
« on: August 29, 2024, 10:42:50 PM »
We knew the defense was the question mark with the loss of 10 starters so I am not concerned about that. We need to score 35 a game to stay competitive and that will not happen with the current offensive scheme. I think Beau is a winner and has a great heart but I don’t think he is the answer and we need to utilize him where he can be the most effective like in an H back or motion receiver where he can get in space. Out longest pass wa 18 yards and probably lost were YAC. With so many transfers it will be difficult to get momentum. I sa let some other QBs play the next two games and evaluate for Pitt game. Otherwise we are in for a long season.

Of any season opener in a long time, this one will tell us a lot about the team and effort we have. Looking forward to seeing the run game and how new defense holds up. I think we have some depth on D but will they play without making big mistakes like last year?  Going to watch the game at Double Bogies in the Southern Park Mall for the YSU watch party.

Thoughts from spring game. QB is the biggest question. Brungard and Shannon ran a lot!! Not good. Hard to tell with splitting receivers and tight ends but run first was definitely part of the scheme. It was windy also. Brungard had several passes batted down at the line and I think if Shannon works with receivers all summer he could be the starter come week 4. As far as throwing it. Schondelmeyer looked good as well as Blanc but they ran it a lot less. D line will be an issue. Depleted and we looked small up front on D. Fordham will be a nice addition to secondary as he broke up a few passes. Was very surprised they full live on the QBs today. Over all I would say B- to C+ as far as spring prep. Maybe a portal player or two on d line would help.
