Cross Country Wins Canisius Alumni Classic

Buffalo, N.Y. -- Junior Tyler Polman posted a personal-best time of 25:11.9 to win the individual title and lead the Penguins to the team championship at the Canisius Alumni Open on Saturday afternoon. Polman's time now ranks seventh in school history in the 8K.

The Penguins recorded the top three finishers and five of the top six en route to the team crown. Sophomore Chris Butler finished second with a time of 25:25.2 while sophomore Sean Peterson was third with a time of 25:34.5. Junior Derek Basinger posted a time of 25:41.5 to finish fifth and sophomore Ethan Sparks came in sixth with a time of 25:47.5. Junior Cole Lovett finished 11th with a time of 25:55.7 and junior C.J. Schumacher turned in a time of 26:00.6 and finished 14th.

On the women's side, sophomore Charlotte Crouch led the Penguins with a personal-best time of 19:29.3 and finished 14th while junior Raquel Markulin finished 29th with time of 20:00.3 and sophomore Emma Hunkus recorded a time of 21:01.0 to finish 52nd. Freshman Hannah Ryan turned in a time of 23:15.2, Gina Gabriele posted a time of 25:17.9 and Julia Getsy recorded a time of 27.12.0.

The Penguins are idle next week and will compete in the 2019 Horizon League Championships, Saturday, Nov. 2, in Highland Heights, Ky.

I know that it is hard to get your minds off of yesterday's disappointment, but the CC and bowling teams are showing we are a solid all-around sports school.
